Day 1: Londorossi Gate – Big Tree Camp

  • Start Altitude: 2,100 m

  • End Altitude: 2,600 m

  • Distance: 5–6 km

  • Hiking Time: 3–4 hours

Start at Londorossi Gate, complete registration, and meet guides and porters. Trek through dense rainforest, home to colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, and exotic birds.

Day 2: Big Tree Camp – Shira 1 Camp

  • Start Altitude: 2,600 m

  • End Altitude: 3,500 m

  • Distance: ~10 km

  • Hiking Time: 5–6 hours

Leave the rainforest and ascend through heath and moorland zones. See giant lobelias and unique heathers, with panoramic views of Kilimanjaro’s peaks.

Camp: Shira 1 Camp

Day 3: Shira 1 Camp – Shira 2 Camp

Cross the Shira Plateau, a highland volcanic plateau with wide vistas. This moderate hiking day helps the body adjust to higher altitudes.

Day 4: Shira 2 Camp – Barranco Camp

Day 5: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp

  • Distance: ~5 km

Climbers ascend the Barranco Wall, a steep but manageable rock face, then continue to Karanga Camp. This shorter day allows rest and preparation for the summit.

Day 6: Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak – Mweka Camp

  • Barafu Camp: 4,600 m

  • Descent: Mweka Camp 3,100 m

  • Distance: ~15 km

  • Hiking Time: 12–14 hours

The summit day begins around midnight. Climbers trek from Barafu Camp to Gilman’s Point (5,685 m) and then Uhuru Peak (5,895 m). After enjoying the sunrise and summit views, descend to Mweka Camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 7: Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate – Return to Moshi/Arusha

  • Start Altitude: 3,100 m

  • End Altitude: 1,640 m

  • Distance: ~10 km

  • Hiking Time: 3–5 hours

The final day is a descent through rainforest to Mweka Gate, where climbers receive Kilimanjaro Summit Certificates. Transfer back to Moshi or Arusha, marking the conclusion of this 7-day adventure.


Best Time to Climb

  • January – March: Cool, clear skies, fewer climbers

  • June – October: Dry season, ideal for summit visibility

  • Avoid April–May (long rains) for safer trekking
